A Few Thoughts

September 30, 2010

“If you woke up this morning with more body parts that don’t hurt than those that do, you are blessed.

If you have food, clothes, and a place to live, you are richer than 75% of the world.

If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, or spare change at home, you are among the top 8 percent of the world’s weathiest people.

If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation, you are ahead of five million people in the world.

If you can read this message, you are more blessed than two billion people in the world who cannot read.”

Good stuff from Joyce Meyer, ‘Eat the Cookie, Buy the Shoes”

That is good stuff. Jimmy Carter says that the biggest problem in the world is the gap between those that have and those that have not.

And I read a blurb that said it you can go into a book store and buy a book, then sit down and read it, you are wealthier than most in the world. Amazing.

Exactly what has been on my mind this morning… I am so blessed, am I doing everything I could with those blessings or just squandering them selfishly?

    Thanks for this reminder.

Very good reminder. How easy it is to want want want until you read something as startling as those number. Time to thank God for providing!

Val, I was struck, not only by the numbers, but the basics. reading, spare change, health… It’s so easy to forget how blessed Americans are in comparison to the rest of the world, and there are those, right here at home, who have so little. I need the remind to give, give, give.
