Doing the Happy Dance!

October 19, 2010

The last project of the year – started a month ago, and just finished. Here’s the ‘before’ photo. The previous owners had an English garden,

but it was completely overgrown, and way too high maintenance to keep up.

Ground cover had to go – we found two snakes in it…

Happy to see bare ground!

If you’re a tree lover, you’ll be sad to know we had this 40 foot crape myrtle, at the corner of the deck, cut down.

Once it was gone it opened up the view so much.

We scavenged enough bricks and pavers from all over our yard to lay a small patio area.

Then we hauled in a dump truck load of dirt. Even mentioning that makes my back hurt again.
(See with the crape myrtle gone? Much better! )

Two loads of sod brought home, and laid, and presto yard,
Just in time for visits from family and friends,

and mild-temperature days during the holidays,

and morning coffee,

and watching sunsets over a glass of wine in the evening.

It should be easy to keep up, which was the goal we were going after.

We’re doing the happy dance for the final project of 2010 being finished!

I love what you did with your yard/landscaping. I have such big hopes for our yard, but I’m not creative enough to come up with anything beyond some landscaping along the perimeter of the house. We’re the first homeowners here, so I’m starting with a blank slate. Without a plan, I’ve got just a yard of grass with a couple of trees. 😦
