stretching exercises

November 3, 2010

It’s been over two years since I talked to my brother about what it’s like to stand in line, and pick up a box of food from a local food pantry. It’s been a year since we heard our new church had an active ministry of running their own food and clothing pantry, manned by volunteers.

Today Don and I take our first shift of working there. I’m a bit nervous. In the past we’ve stayed a safe distance away, dropping food off but never getting involved. Today we change that. We’ve been told we’ll help those who come in pick up, or choose foods based on their family needs and preferences, and help those who need clothing.

I also just started reading ‘Same Kind of Different as Me’. It’s so much easier to go through life, day after day, staying the same. I don’t want ‘easy’. I want ‘honoring’. That’s going to involve some stretching exercises on my part.

I’ve volunteered at my church’s food pantry since we began it in April, 2009. I come away so blessed and humbled each week. I know God will use this time to bless others and you and your husband. I loved that book. I think of it often.

I loved that book. I have given several copies away to nonchristian friends and family members. I pray that Ron Hall and Denver Moore would touch their hearts through this book.
You will be so blessed by working at the food pantry. I always walk away feeling like I helped myself more than the families I was there to serve.
Welcome to Texas! I met your daughter at a Boy Scout (grandsons) ice cream social last year. What a lovely gal.
