Thankful for another family…

November 15, 2010

We spent much of the weekend with our new church family. It started early, meeting the Saturday Breakfast Club for breakfast at Denny’s, followed by shopping together for Christmas bargains. I came home feeling like I knew 8 sweet women a little better. Then back into town that evening, meeting a couple  to enjoy good wine and Italian food, then take in a play at the local theater. Home late, sleep a little, then back the next morning for Sunday School, church, and later in the day our new church family got together for cake and karaoke in the activities building.

As I sat there, watching (I don’t do karaoke!) I thought about our new, growing friendships. Faces have names. We are beginning to know some of their stories; we pray for their struggles; celebrate over jobs found, babies on the way, good reports from the doctor. That’s what family is all about, isn’t it? In this disjointed world even our biological families don’t always work that way, whether it’s because of miles, or issues, between us. How gracious is God, that he fills the gaps?

Oh yes and it’s wonderful when we can be blessed with both!!

I totally agree. Our family is graciously normal in every way … but because we have been so far away from them for so many years, we have grown to love our forever friends as our brothers and sisters. I’m so glad you roots are getting deeper.
