Christmas 2010 at the Lake

Come on in! I thought our first Christmas the lake warranted a new wreath for the front door. My oldest daughter, Sarah wisely advised me to decorate for seasons rather than holidays, so this will stay up til at least the end of February. No bow to crumple – I love that. That door was tan when we moved in, and isn’t black so much better?! If you could ring the doorbell, it would play ‘We wish you a Merry Christmas’.

Here’s our giant tree – actually about three feet tall, given to me last year by the girls who attended a sewing class I taught. Just the right size for the table in the entry, and at night it gives a sweet glow. I have a goal to eventually frame tons of photos from past Christmases and set them out – maybe 2011.

Our six year old grandson, Grayson, told me this was his favorite part of decorating – ‘putting up the snow village’. It’s a bit fragile, but when I asked the three grandkids to be very gentle they seemed to be in awe of being allowed to handle each piece. They decided where it all went, and loved it when I turned the lights on.

We had three of our grandkids out to the lake to help with the decorating, and for general-all-round-spoiling. Do you think maybe we could throw another pattern on this picture????

Anyone who really loves me will not give a hoot that the light fixtures are covered in a fine layer of dust. Seriously, does anyone have time to dust this time of year? I’ve had this mistletoe ball for years and the house wouldn’t seem decorated without it. Christmastime is made for lots of kisses!

So that’s Christmas at our house. We’re driving into the Metroplex this weekend to celebrate Christmas with our Texas kids. Early next week we’ll be heading to Pennsylvania, by car because somehow that seemed like a good idea two months ago, and we’ll be home just in time to greet the New Year. If you drove by you wouldn’t likely see a single Christmas light glowing, but it’s glowing in our hearts.
